Our Impact in Mozambique

We believe that every child deserves a loving, nurturing and safe environment.

Love The Children. Unite The World.

As we delve into the Maputo province, we encounter numerous villages where orphaned and vulnerable children endure the harsh realities of extreme multidimensional poverty. It is in the village of Chia that our journey unfolds, igniting a beacon of hope that extends its light to five surrounding villages, enriching lives through our comprehensive food program and a range of essential services.

Mozambique, a nation known for its resilience and rich cultural tapestry, also grapples with profound socioeconomic challenges. Ranked 181 out of 189 countries globally, and standing as the fifth poorest nation on the African continent, its people face a daunting array of obstacles. Malnourishment, rampant waterborne illnesses, the looming shadow of the HIV/AIDS crisis, and a myriad of other poverty-related issues cast a pall over the landscape, particularly impacting the vulnerable children who inhabit its villages.

What’s Happening Now

74 deaths per 1,000 live births

Mozambique has one of the highest child mortality rates globally. This rate reflects the significant challenges in healthcare access and quality affecting the country’s most vulnerable.

About 43% are malnourished

Chronic malnutrition remains a critical issue, with UNICEF noting that about 43% of children under five years of age in Mozambique suffer from stunted growth due to malnutrition. This condition has long-term effects on children’s physical and cognitive development.

only about half of the population has access to safe drinking water

Safe drinking water and sanitation facilities are scarce in many parts of Mozambique, affecting children’s health and well-being. Only about half of the population has access to safe drinking water, and even fewer have access to adequate sanitation facilities, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases among children.
